Pedro Porro remains on the radar of both Real Madrid and Barcelona despite his long-term contract at Tottenham and the difficulty of negotiating a move from England.

The 27-year-old right-back has emerged as a possible option for the two Spanish giants after an impressive World Cup with Spain, who lifted the trophy in July.

Journalist Nil SolĂ  reported that both clubs have sounded out Porro in recent months as they assess their options at right-back.

The interest is significant because Porro has previously been linked with Real Madrid, while Barcelona have also monitored his situation. His performances for Spain have strengthened his standing after several seasons in English football.

However, Tottenham hold a strong negotiating position after Porro renewed his contract in June. His new agreement runs until 2031, leaving the Premier League club with little incentive to consider a sale unless an attractive offer arrives.

There are also no release clauses in England of the type commonly found in Spanish contracts, making a departure dependent on negotiations between the clubs.

SolĂ  said Porro would like to return to Spain, although he stressed that taking him away from Tottenham would currently be difficult.

“It’s true that Pedro Porro wants to return to Spain and that Barça and Madrid have sounded him out,” Solà said. “Now, after renewing, it is very difficult to take him out, but it is true that he is happy in England while obviously he would like to return to a big club here in Spain.”

Porro’s situation therefore leaves both Spanish clubs interested but without an obvious route to a January agreement.

Barcelona would have to determine whether the financial and sporting conditions make a move possible, while Real Madrid would also need to convince Tottenham to negotiate.

For now, the defender remains tied to north London for the long term, even if his reported desire to return to La Liga has opened the door to renewed speculation.
