Romero opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a strike from outside the area, before Correia wrapped up the result in the 82nd minute after a fast counter-attack. Youssouf Fofana provided the assist for both goals as Sevilla moved to 17 points.
Romero said the team had prepared carefully for the fixture and knew the importance of responding.
“We knew it was an important match, one we had worked hard for throughout the week. We also talked a lot about keeping a clean sheet. We did that and took the chances we had,” he said after the game.
The forward admitted he had not felt fully comfortable early on.
“We started a little poorly; I wasn’t really finding myself on the pitch either. After the goal, we knew how to manage the match and keep the ball. We are a great family and we show that every weekend on the pitch.”
Romero was quick to credit Fofana for the opener.
“Fofa played it to me really well and I didn’t think twice; I hit it as best I could,” he said. He also described the unity in the dressing room, explaining that he had promised to celebrate with Peque and the substitutes if he scored.
“We have built a great family in the dressing room. We all get on really well; most of us are young lads,” Romero added. He also praised Sevilla’s supporters, calling them the team’s “12th player” for the energy they bring each week.
Correia, who scored the second goal, was equally pleased to have delivered at home. “A beautiful match in our home in front of our fans. It was very important to win after the matches against Levante and Real Madrid. We are competing and have a good mentality. It was important to win and keep going,” he said.
The Portuguese winger added that he was happy with his form but wanted more.
“I’m happy and confident, but I want more. I always work for more. I’ve scored a goal, but I’m already thinking about scoring another in the next match.”
Correia also spoke warmly about his surroundings in Seville, saying he liked the people, the city and the atmosphere at the stadium. The result ended a three-match winless run in the league and gave both scorers a platform to build on.
