The move was confirmed by both clubs on Sunday, with Sevilla paying around €3m for 50% of González's rights and Real Madrid retaining buyback clauses across the next three transfer windows worth between €3m and €5m, a structure similar to the one used to sign Julio Díaz and common in Real Madrid's academy sales.
González is the sixth arrival of Sevilla's summer and has already joined the squad's pre-season training camp in Garderen, Netherlands.
Born in León on 24 June 2005, González joined Real Madrid's academy in 2022 at the age of 17 and spent four seasons rising through the ranks, culminating in a first-team debut against Valencia at the Santiago Bernabéu in LaLiga's 30th round of the 2024-25 season, aged 19. He will compete for the number one shirt with Odysseas, who starts as favourite to retain the starting role he held last season.
Real Madrid confirmed the departure in a statement: "Real Madrid C. F. and Sevilla F. C. have agreed the transfer of our player Fran González."
The statement continued: "Fran González joined Real Madrid in 2022 at 17 years old and has been part of our academy for four seasons. In 2025 he made his debut with the first team. Real Madrid will always be his home and thanks him for his work and dedication over all these years.
"Our club wishes Fran González and his family all the best in this new stage of his life."
González also posted a farewell message on social media, thanking the club: "Today I have to say goodbye to a place that has meant so much to me. Real Madrid, as I'd say to my friends, my Madrid. I leave with the peace of mind of knowing I gave everything to wear this badge.
"Those who have always known me know what Real Madrid represents for me, the pride and the constant dream that being part of this club has been, and the commitment with which I've faced every day."
He singled out coaches Luis Llopis and Mario Soria for special thanks "because they never doubted me and always trusted in my work and in who I am," before closing: "Thank you for everything. It has been a genuine honour to be part of this institution. See you soon and, as always, ¡Hala Madrid!"
