Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards has attracted enquiries from Serie A clubs, with his representative suggesting a transfer could be considered in January.

The United States international has become an important figure at Selhurst Park since joining Palace from Bayern Munich in 2022. His performances have strengthened his standing at club level and with the national team, but his contractual situation has created uncertainty over his longer-term future.

Richards’ current Palace deal runs until 2027, meaning the coming transfer windows could become significant if the club cannot agree an extension. Italian sides have already been monitoring the centre-back, with the possibility of a move emerging as the January window approaches.

Alan Redmond, Roc Nation’s head of football, discussed the defender’s situation in an interview with Adnkronos. Asked about the futures of players represented by the agency, Redmond confirmed that Richards had attracted interest from Italy.

“Whoever wanted to change teams, did. We’ve had some inquiries from Serie A clubs about Chris Richards, the Crystal Palace defender,” he said.

Redmond suggested that January could provide an opportunity for movement, although he stopped short of predicting that a deal would be completed.

“In his case, perhaps something could happen in January; we’ll see. As for the rest, it’s more likely that certain deals will be discussed again in the summer of 2027,” he added.

The comments indicate that Richards’ situation is being watched by clubs outside England, but enquiries do not necessarily mean Palace are ready to sell. Much will depend on the defender’s own wishes, the terms offered and whether the London club want to negotiate a new contract.

Richards has built his reputation through his defensive work and ability to compete at Premier League level. His experience in England, combined with his international responsibilities for the United States, could make him an attractive option for clubs seeking a centre-back with top-flight experience.

Crystal Palace would also have to weigh the sporting implications of losing him. A January departure could leave limited time to secure a replacement during the middle of the season, while allowing his contract to run down would risk reducing the club’s leverage in future negotiations.

For now, the position remains open. Redmond’s comments confirm that Italian clubs have made enquiries, but no agreement has been announced and a transfer remains a possibility rather than a certainty.
