Aston Villa are reportedly looking to extend Victor Lindelöf’s contract after the Sweden international made a strong impression since joining the club from Manchester United.

The 32-year-old centre-back moved to Villa in the summer of 2025 after eight years at Old Trafford. He made 284 appearances for Manchester United, scoring four goals and providing seven assists, before moving on.

Lindelöf signed a deal with Aston Villa until the summer of 2027, with the option of a further year. However, a report by The Athletic says the club are interested in keeping him beyond his current terms and that discussions are moving in a positive direction.

The defender has become an increasingly important figure at Villa Park. Since arriving, he has made 36 appearances and registered one assist, according to the figures cited in the report. His form has also earned recognition in an assessment of Villa’s strongest performers this season.

Lindelöf is an established member of the Sweden national team and currently serves as captain. He made his international debut in 2016 and has accumulated 84 appearances for his country, scoring three goals.

His experience could be valuable as Villa look to stabilise their campaign. The club finished fourth in the Premier League last season to secure Champions League qualification, but their start to the current league season has been less convincing.

After six matches, Villa were 15th with five points, leaving them needing to improve if they are to move back towards the upper half of the table. Their early results have placed added emphasis on reliable performances from experienced players.

Lindelöf’s career at Manchester United included a lengthy spell as a regular defensive option, but he left after the 2024-25 season and opted to continue in the Premier League with Villa. His move gave him the chance to establish himself in a new environment while remaining in England’s top flight.

A contract extension would provide Villa with continuity at centre-back and reward a player who has quickly become part of the defensive rotation. The reported interest is not yet a completed agreement, and the club have not publicly announced a new deal.

For Lindelöf, the next step will be to maintain his level and help Villa climb the table. If talks continue as reported, the Sweden captain could remain at Villa Park beyond 2027, with the additional option year also part of his existing contract.
