The Neroverdi announced the agreement on Wednesday, confirming that the 22-year-old will remain tied to the club for another five seasons beyond his previous deal. The decision represents a significant commitment to a player Sassuolo believe can continue to develop into an important part of their first-team plans.
Volpato has made six appearances across Serie A and the Coppa Italia this season, scoring twice, according to the report announcing his renewal. His performances have strengthened his position within the squad as Sassuolo look to establish themselves following their return to Italy's top flight.
The club confirmed the extension in an official statement.
“U.S. Sassuolo Calcio announces that it has extended the contract of player Cristian Volpato until 30 June 2031. The club wishes Cristian the very best of luck for the continuation of his career in the Neroverde shirt,” the statement read.
Volpato joined Sassuolo from Roma in the summer of 2023, having previously developed through the capital club's youth system. He moved to Italy at the age of 17 after beginning his football education in Australia with Western Sydney's youth set-up.
His progression at Roma brought opportunities in senior football, including a Serie A debut and his first goal in the competition. The move to Sassuolo subsequently offered him the chance to pursue a more prominent role while continuing his development in Italian football.
He has made 78 appearances for Sassuolo across competitions, scoring nine goals, according to the club's reported career figures. His latest contract provides continuity as he seeks to build on that experience and become an increasingly influential attacking option.
The extension also removes uncertainty over his immediate future, with Sassuolo demonstrating their intention to retain a player who has attracted attention during his time in Italy.
For Volpato, the agreement provides a long-term opportunity to establish himself at a club where he has already accumulated substantial senior experience. Sassuolo, meanwhile, have secured the services of an Australian international prospect entering an important stage of his career.
The new deal runs until 30 June 2031, underlining the club's confidence in his continued development.
