The Mirror reported the exchanges on X following Aston Villa's 4-0 Europa League semi-final second leg victory over Nottingham Forest, which sent the club through 4-1 on aggregate to face SC Freiburg in Istanbul on May 20.
Sancho, 26, who has featured in 12 of Villa's 14 Europa League games this season and scored one goal, was tagged in a post highlighting his hat-trick of European final appearances. A United fan responded by questioning his actual contribution. Sancho's reply was immediate.
"Yeah, make sure you have a good look!"
He was told he had peaked at 21, called a nothing footballer, and had his mentality questioned. Each response was measured and occasionally deadpan. When one user suggested he was acting like Kylian Mbappé after coming on for four minutes, Sancho simply replied:
"Have a good night, bro!"
The most entertaining exchange came when a user named Christiano — with an H — told Sancho he was a "nothing footballer." Sancho ignored the point and focused on the name.
"Just wondering, is your name actually Christiano?"
When someone noted that the real Cristiano Ronaldo does not have an H in his name, Sancho replied: "I thought so," with a face-palm emoji.
He signed off at 12.28am.
"Jokes aside, love n hate, today is for @AVFCOfficial — goodnight Villans. See you in Istanbul!"
Sancho reached the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund in 2024 before helping Chelsea win the Conference League final last year. His appearances this season at Villa have been limited but consistent — a role player whose wider track record has drawn admiration from those watching and fury from those who remember what he cost Manchester United when they signed him from Dortmund for £73million in 2021.
Three finals. Three clubs. He still belongs to United. The irony has not been lost on either side.
