Riemer hails Haaland as he earns Norway victory against Denmark

Haaland struck at a crucial moment after Denmark had applied pressure following Norway’s strong start, finding space from a corner to put the hosts back in front.

Riemer criticised Denmark’s defending for the goal, arguing that his players allowed Haaland too much room inside the penalty area.

“Norway won on a single moment of brilliance and a huge mistake from our side. Haaland is so clinical when he gets the opportunity,” Riemer said.

“Haaland needs so little space to decide matches. I have to say that Norway currently have the world’s best striker.”

The Manchester City forward finished with two goals and now has 40 goals in 33 appearances at Ullevaal.

His overall international record stands at 64 goals in 56 matches for Norway.

Norway captain Martin Ødegaard also played a decisive role, providing the assist for Haaland’s second goal.

“When a football match is tight, like this one was, it is players like Ødegaard and Haaland who are decisive,” Riemer said.

Ødegaard was pleased with Norway’s victory despite admitting that the hosts had areas to improve.

“It tastes good. It’s nice to beat the neighbours,” he told TV 2 Norway.

“There is a lot we could have done better, but even when we came under a bit of pressure, we found a way to come back and respond.”

The Arsenal midfielder also praised Pål Fjelde, who was involved in the preparation for Norway’s decisive set-piece.

“We can only praise Pål Fjelde. He has really done his homework,” Ødegaard said.

The defeat was Denmark’s first against Norway in a competitive fixture, with Riemer’s side now turning their attention to Sunday’s meeting with Wales at Parken.
