REVEALED: Everton rejected Troy Parrott before Betis move

Everton rejected the chance to sign Troy Parrott after David Moyes was advised to pursue the striker, with his impressive start at Real Betis now highlighting the decision.

Kevin Kilbane, the former Everton midfielder and Ireland international, recommended Parrott to David Moyes, who was managing the Premier League club at the time.

Kilbane believes Moyes did not want to follow his advice, despite his conviction that Parrott had developed into a much more complete striker.

ā€œI don’t think Moyes wanted to take my advice. With Parrott, you were signing a player who has matured,ā€ Kilbane told the Liverpool Echo.

ā€œHe looks physically stronger. Irish fans know he is not a flash in the pan, his talent is real. If you ask me what his potential is, he could go anywhere he sets his mind to.ā€

Kilbane also highlighted the improvement in Parrott’s overall game, saying the forward had developed technically and tactically and was now a more complete player.

Parrott’s emergence in Spain has added to the frustration surrounding Everton’s decision. The club had monitored him for some time and held discussions over a possible move during both the previous January window and the summer.

However, Moyes was not ultimately convinced, leaving Everton to pursue other attacking targets.

The club attempted moves for Folarin Balogun, Richarlison and Joshua Zirkzee, but none of those deals materialised.

Everton subsequently began the season with only one recognised centre-forward in their squad, Thierno Barry, while their lack of goals has become increasingly noticeable.

The Toffees have remained unbeaten and sit seventh in the Premier League, but have scored only six goals across their opening five matches.

Parrott, meanwhile, has made a strong impression since arriving at Betis, with his performances for both club and country driving his profile higher.

The Irish striker’s development means Everton could now look back at their decision with regret, particularly given that the club had already been aware of his qualities before Moyes decided against making the move.

His progress has also increased the possibility of interest from Premier League clubs, potentially putting Betis in a strong position if English sides return for him.
