Joselu is close to joining Al-Sailiya in Qatar after ending his spell with Al-Gharafa, with the 36-year-old set to remain in the country despite interest from European clubs.

The former Real Madrid striker ended his commitment to Al-Gharafa in July and has since been considering his next move. A return to Europe was discussed, including possible moves to former club Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin, but neither option materialised.

Joselu is now close to signing for Al-Sailiya, according to Marca, bringing an end to his period without a club.

The move would keep him in Qatar, where he has spent the past two seasons. Joselu played 58 matches for Al-Gharafa and scored 28 goals during that period after leaving Real Madrid.

His spell in Madrid remains one of the most memorable chapters of his career. Joselu scored twice against Bayern Munich in the 2024 Champions League semi-final before helping Real Madrid win La Liga and the Champions League.

He left the Spanish giants that summer and moved to Qatar, where he continued to produce goals for Al-Gharafa.

Al-Sailiya now want the experienced striker to strengthen their attack. The club are currently bottom of the Qatari league after losing all four of their opening matches and have identified Joselu as a player capable of improving their fortunes.

The 36-year-old therefore faces a different challenge as he prepares to begin another chapter in Qatar. Rather than returning to Europe for a final spell, Joselu is set to remain in the country and take on the responsibility of leading an Al-Sailiya side in need of an immediate improvement.

The length of his proposed contract has not yet been revealed, but the move would provide Joselu with another opportunity to continue playing after a brief period out of the game.

For Al-Sailiya, his experience and goalscoring record offer a potential solution to their difficult start.
