Nemanja Matic could yet add another chapter to his well-travelled career, with Tuttosport reporting the 37-year-old has been offered to Juventus as the Turin club continue shaping their squad for the season ahead.

The move would arrive almost by accident. Matic's name is said to have come up during discussions between his agent and Juventus officials that were actually centred on a different client, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, only for the Serbian's availability to be raised as a potential add-on.

Coach Luciano Spalletti's side are not thought to see him as a marquee addition, but rather as an experienced, low-cost option capable of steadying things from the bench or protecting a back four when needed.

The financial logic is straightforward. Matic currently earns in the region of โ‚ฌ2m a year at Sassuolo, where he has a contract until 2027, a salary that would sit comfortably within Juventus' wage structure without stretching their resources. Given his experience across spells with Chelsea, Manchester United and AS Roma among others, the Bianconeri view him as a squad player capable of contributing without needing regular starts, easing an ageing legs concern while barely registering on the balance sheet.

Any deal would first require Juventus to trim their midfield, with Arthur and Douglas Luiz the most likely candidates to make way as the club looks to create room and balance the books before considering fresh arrivals.

Nothing is close to being finalised, and Sassuolo have given no indication they are willing to sanction a departure with a year still left on his contract, but the fact Matic's name has resurfaced at all, a decade after Juventus first showed interest in him during his Chelsea days, adds an unexpected twist to their midfield planning.

Matic enjoyed a solid campaign at Sassuolo last season and did enough to convince sporting director Giovanni Carnevali, who worked with him at the Emilian club before moving to Juventus, that he still has something to offer at the highest level.

Whether that trust translates into an actual transfer remains to be seen, with Juventus' priorities elsewhere โ€” most notably a goalkeeper and a new centre-forward โ€” likely to take precedence over finalising a deal for Matic in the coming weeks.
