The 25-year-old spent two and a half years at Nottingham Forest after joining in January 2023, scoring six goals and adding four assists in 62 competitive appearances, but struggled to hold down a regular starting place.
He returned to his native Brazil last summer to join Botafogo, and has been transformed since arriving back home, scoring 11 goals and adding seven assists in 41 appearances to force his way into Carlo Ancelotti's World Cup squad, albeit with limited playing time in the tournament itself.
Reports linking Manchester United with Danilo first emerged in late May, with the Brazilian seen as a potential option to help replace Casemiro in central midfield. According to FogaoNet, Chelsea have now also made contact with Botafogo over a potential deal, having already sanctioned the sale of Andrey Santos to Manchester United and needing a replacement in midfield. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea follow their initial enquiry up with a concrete offer.
Danilo's situation has continued to attract fresh suitors throughout the summer, with Newcastle United currently considered the strongest Premier League contender, having discussed the midfielder internally as a possible alternative to Bruno Guimaraes should their captain complete a move to Arsenal.
Arsenal, for their part, have approached Danilo's representatives directly, while Botafogo are said to be holding out for a fee in the region of €40million, having already turned down a €30million bid from Fulham.
Botafogo would prefer to sell to a European club rather than one of their Brazilian rivals, with Palmeiras and Flamengo both having also shown interest domestically, and Palmeiras understood to have tested Botafogo's resolve with a bid of around €25million.
With four Premier League clubs now credited with an interest in some form, Danilo's proposed valuation could yet prove difficult to sustain given his limited game time for Brazil at the World Cup, even if Botafogo remain confident of eventually recouping a healthy profit on the roughly £21million they paid Forest for him a year ago.
