Napoli are monitoring Basel winger Asane Sow, with his agent Michele Puglisi confirming that he expects to meet the Italian club in the coming weeks soon.

Sow moved to Basel from Pro Vercelli in the summer and has quickly drawn attention after stepping up from Italy's Serie C. Napoli are one of several clubs monitoring the 20-year-old, while sporting director Giovanni Manna is already familiar with his profile.

Speaking to Stile TV, Puglisi said the Swiss club's investment in the player has given him a bigger stage and confirmed that a meeting with Napoli is planned.

β€œI will certainly meet Napoli, but the boy has also only just arrived at Basel, so we also have to respect the processes, which can also be accelerated. But, for sure, they will take some time to continue following the boy and in a few weeks there will be an assessment of the situation.

"I started working abroad because there is a different mentality towards these types of players. I understand that Serie C is different in quality and also far from Serie A, but Basel bets on and invests in young players.

"In Italy, a young player is not put in the condition to express himself because when a young player arrives he is always on trial, I think there is a lack of belief in the player.”

Puglisi also explained why he believes Sow can appeal to clubs looking for more than a conventional winger. The agent said the player has the physical and technical qualities to move into a central attacking role.

β€œHe has important qualities from a physical and technical point of view. He is a player who has some shots, he is not a classic winger who can only do that. He has a physique that he is already improving and I believe he can also play as a second striker, alongside a more static forward, because he has an important running power and, if he exploits the spaces, he can do that too. That is why he is versatile: in that area of the pitch he has the right characteristics to play both roles.”

The potential price tag is also beginning to emerge. Puglisi believes €8-10 million could be a realistic valuation, although he stressed that the final figure is not his to set.

β€œβ‚¬8-10 million for Sow? I think that could be a realistic figure because even though we transferred him in this summer window, in the last 15 days of the market European and Saudi clubs came forward with interest in the player, but Basel did not even want to sit down, so I think that is a realistic thought. Then, of course, I cannot give the precise valuation.”

Basel signed Sow on a four-year contract and he is listed by the club as part of its first-team attack. His emergence in Switzerland has now put Napoli among the clubs deciding how far they want to take their interest.
