The Ukraine international, 25, has not featured in a competitive match since November 2024, when he was provisionally suspended following an adverse finding for the banned substance meldonium.
He was cleared to return last week after resolving his case with the Football Association. His original ban had been set to run for four years before an appeal and a change in WADA testing procedures led to an early resolution, meaning Wednesday would mark his first competitive minutes since his last appearance, a Conference League win at Heidenheim in which he scored before the failed test that followed.
Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed his availability: "Yes, he could play. Maybe [to play] 90 minutes it's too early, but he can be selected. He's selected, so he can play.
"He trained yesterday, came directly from the airport to the hotel. So, yesterday was more about the feelings, more about the emotions, to be back with the players to assess the fitness level."
Mudryk received a huge cheer when his picture appeared on the big screen at Kai Tak Stadium during an open training session ahead of the Juventus match, and warmed up with the wider squad as Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" played over the public address system.
He took part in a number of possession drills, including some playful wrestling with defender Tosin Adarabioyo, before splitting into a group of likely substitutes for a set-piece session run by new coach Austin MacPhee, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa this summer.
He then worked through a second drill led by Alonso himself, deployed as one of two left-sided wingers practising attacking patterns of play.
His return comes amid growing transfer interest in the winger, including from Coventry City manager Frank Lampard, who worked with him at Chelsea in 2023, though for now the focus appears to be on reintegrating him into first-team training rather than settling his longer-term future.
