Henrikh Mkhitaryan has ruled out moves to Saudi Arabia, Armenia or Major League Soccer, insisting that ambition rather than money has driven his career as he considers how much longer he can play.

The 37-year-old Inter Milan midfielder discussed his future in an interview with Armenian television, reflecting on the decisions that have shaped his career and the difficulty of making long-term plans at his age.

“I rule out the possibility of moving to Saudi Arabia, Armenia or MLS, because money has never been the most important thing to me,” Mkhitaryan said.

“I have never played football for money. I changed clubs and played football for my ambitions, my goals and those dreams I had as a child, which have accompanied me throughout my career.”

The Armenia international also addressed speculation about retirement, although he stopped short of suggesting that he was ready to bring his playing days to an end.

“I can’t promise anything, because I have reached an age where you shouldn’t make big long-term plans,” he said. “You have to live day by day, thinking about the next day.”

Mkhitaryan acknowledged that maintaining the physical demands of elite football becomes more challenging with age, particularly when training alongside teammates who are considerably younger.

“It is not easy to recover, it is not easy to set goals, and it is not easy to train like your 22-year-old teammates do,” he said. “I try to do everything as well as I can, but I cannot promise how long I will keep playing.”

His comments leave open the question of how much longer he intends to continue, but make clear that he is concentrating on the present rather than setting a retirement date.

Mkhitaryan joined Inter in 2022 and has become an experienced presence in the club’s midfield, bringing tactical intelligence and extensive experience from spells in several major European leagues.

His contract situation also needs clarification. Inter announced in July 2026 that the midfielder had extended his agreement until 2027, meaning his deal is not due to expire at the end of the current season.

For now, Mkhitaryan has ruled out several potential destinations while refusing to make promises about his future. His priority remains performing at the highest level for as long as his physical condition allows, rather than deciding in advance when his career should end.
