AC Milan's summer rebuild under coach Ruben Amorim is not just about incomings, with the futures of Adrien Rabiot, Yunus Musah and Fikayo Tomori all under scrutiny as they look to trim its squad following the arrivals of Mario Gila and Goncalo Ramos.

Rabiot, who has been in outstanding form for France at the World Cup, remains contracted to AC Milan until 2028, but Amorim's arrival has already triggered changes elsewhere and the 31-year-old midfielder has been asked directly about his own future at the club. His response gave little away.

"We'll talk about it later," he said, when pressed on whether a conversation with the new head coach was on the horizon โ€” a non-answer that suggests his situation is one to keep an eye on as pre-season approaches.

Musah's position looks more clear-cut. The American midfielder has returned to Milanello after a season on loan at Atalanta and is expected to leave again on a permanent basis, with Leeds United showing strong interest. Daniel Farke's side had been planning to run the rule over him during the World Cup, but his omission from the USA squad by head coach Mauricio Pochettino appears to have accelerated their move.

West Ham United, who also tried to sign him last year, remain in the picture too. Either destination would take Musah back to England, where he came through Arsenal's academy, and offer a chance to rebuild momentum after a mixed season in Bergamo that yielded just 27 appearances, two goals and one assist, many of them off the bench.

Tomori's situation follows a similar pattern. With his contract expiring in 2027 and his long-term future at Milan uncertain, Newcastle United have identified the England international as a priority defensive target for Eddie Howe, with the sense in the Premier League that Milan would not stand in his way given the player has effectively been made available. A move to Tyneside would reunite Tomori with former teammate Malick Thiaw, who left Milan for Newcastle last summer, while newly promoted Coventry City have also been credited with interest as they look to build a squad capable of staying up in their first season back in the top flight.

Taken together, the three situations underline the scale of the rebuild facing Milan as Amorim looks to stamp his own identity on the squad, with further departures likely before the transfer window closes.
