Modric remains an influential figure at San Siro, but the Croatian’s long-term future is uncertain as he approaches the latter stages of his career. Milan are therefore beginning to examine alternatives ahead of a possible departure at the end of the season.
The 41-year-old has said he wants to continue playing while he still feels physically capable and motivated. However, Milan cannot assume he will remain beyond his current deal and are looking at younger midfielders who could help shape the next stage of the team’s development.
Scott has emerged as a leading option. The 23-year-old has impressed at Bournemouth and recently earned recognition at international level with England, strengthening his reputation as one of the Premier League’s promising midfielders.
His ability to operate in a deeper role or further forward makes him an attractive option for AC Milan, who are looking for a player capable of contributing both in possession and in more advanced areas.
There is, however, a significant financial obstacle. Bournemouth are reported to value Scott at more than €50 million, meaning Milan would need to make a substantial investment to secure his signature. Interest from other clubs could also complicate negotiations.
Scott is not the only Premier League midfielder on Milan’s radar. Ayari, the 22-year-old Sweden international at Brighton, is also being monitored as the Italian club consider their options.
Ayari has established himself as an important part of Brighton’s midfield and has attracted attention through his performances in the Premier League. His age and technical ability make him a potential long-term investment rather than a like-for-like replacement for Modric’s experience.
The two candidates offer different profiles, but both would give Milan younger options as the club plans for a future without the Croatian midfielder. The recruitment process is still at an exploratory stage, with no agreement reported for either player.
Milan’s planning comes as Ruben Amorim continues to assess his squad and identify areas that may need strengthening. While the immediate focus remains on the current campaign, the possibility of losing Modric means the club must prepare for a significant change in midfield.
Modric’s influence will be difficult to replace, given his experience, technical quality and leadership. Milan’s challenge will be to find a player who can contribute to the team’s style while developing into a central figure over several seasons.
For now, Scott appears to be among the leading names under consideration, with Ayari providing another option should the financial demands of a move for the Bournemouth midfielder prove prohibitive.
