Milan and Juventus circle as Lewandowski seeks big stage after Barcelona exit

Robert Lewandowski is looking for one more major challenge after his Barcelona contract expires this summer β€” and AC Milan are emerging as the frontrunners to sign him.

The Polish striker turns 38 in August but has shown no signs of stepping back, scoring 17 goals across all competitions this season. For context, Milan's Christian Pulisic and Rafael LeΓ£o have managed eight and nine respectively in the league β€” a gap that has not been lost on the club's hierarchy.

Lewandowski's entourage has already held talks with Milan's management to discuss the club's project and financial structure. He is not exactly offering himself to anyone, but he is actively seeking a challenge worthy of his reputation. Milan are a serious option, says La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The salary, however, is the sticking point. Lewandowski currently earns around €15 million net per season at Barcelona. Milan have set their ceiling at approximately €7 million β€” less than half. Whether that gap can be bridged will define whether the deal happens.

Milan hope that Champions League football and the prestige of the San Siro project can persuade him to accept significantly less. The club signed Luka Modric on a free last summer after his Real Madrid deal expired and are looking to repeat the formula.

Juventus are also in the picture and have been tracking Lewandowski for some time. The Turin club face the same wage obstacle as Milan, and a two-year deal has been floated as part of any potential arrangement.

Barcelona have offered Lewandowski a one-year extension at reduced wages, but reports in Spain suggest he is no longer prioritising a stay in Catalonia. He intends to make his decision before the end of April.

Chicago Fire and clubs in Saudi Arabia are also in the conversation, though Lewandowski has reportedly rejected approaches from Turkey and remains focused on staying in elite European football.

At 37, with more than 650 club goals to his name, he still has terms to set.
