The midfielder believes the team must maintain its intensity after securing a second consecutive Premier League victory, with the result at Stamford Bridge providing fresh encouragement under Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham secured a 2-0 win on Saturday, with a 77th-minute own goal from Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders breaking the deadlock before Mathys Tel added a second late in the match. Fernandes was among Spursâ standout performers as they controlled long periods of the contest.
Speaking to Tottenhamâs official channels, in comments reported by Bold.dk, Fernandes stressed the need for consistent effort rather than allowing the result to become an isolated success.
âWe have to fight for every single ball in every single minute,â he said. âWe know that Tottenham donât have many wins at this stadium, so we want to change that mentality around the club and the fans.â
Fernandes also made clear that the clubâs ambitions extend beyond improving its immediate league position.
âWe want to fight for big, big things â the titles. That is our challenge, so we just have to keep working hard, believe in everyone at the club and do the right things,â he said.
The victory was particularly significant given Tottenhamâs record at Chelseaâs home ground, where results have frequently gone against them. Spursâ performance was a more convincing display than the scoreline alone might suggest, with their midfield helping them dictate the game for extended periods.
Fernandesâ corner led to Penders turning the ball into his own net, while Telâs individual effort in the closing stages secured the points. Chelseaâs Cole Palmer was also sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
The result followed another league win, giving Tottenham consecutive victories and an opportunity to build momentum after a difficult start to the campaign.
Fernandes joined Spurs from West Ham United in July 2026. The Portugal international had previously played for Southampton and West Ham in the Premier League, and Tottenham made him one of their major additions ahead of the season.
The midfielder has already spoken about his desire to win trophies since arriving in north London. His latest comments underline that ambition, while recognising that the team must turn improved performances into a consistent run of results.
For Fernandes, the next step is to maintain the intensity and belief that helped Tottenham win at Stamford Bridge. He wants Spurs to compete for silverware, but insists that ambition must be supported by hard work and the right approach from everyone at the club.
