Enzo Alves, the 16-year-old son of former Real Madrid and Brazil left-back Marcelo, scored as Spain opened their Under-17 European Championship campaign with a 4-1 win over host nation Estonia in Tallinn on Monday.
Wearing the captain's armband, Enzo — who plays as a centre-forward for Real Madrid's youth team — chipped the ball over the goalkeeper with a composed finish to make it 3-0 just before half-time, bringing up eight goals in 18 appearances for Spain's Under-17 side.
The tournament runs from 25 May to 7 June at the Lilleküla Stadium in Tallinn. Spain are in Group A alongside Estonia, Croatia and Belgium. The top two from each group advance to the semi-finals on 4 June.
Three Real Madrid academy players are representing Spain in the tournament — Enzo, Guille Ponce and Cherif Fofana — while Leo Lemaitre is competing for France in Group B.
Enzo Alves has spent his entire youth career at Real Madrid after joining the club's academy in 2017. Madrid's first-team scout network has already identified him as a candidate for senior involvement by 2027. He holds Spanish and Brazilian nationality, having chosen to represent Spain internationally — a decision that has attracted attention given his father's status as one of Brazil's most celebrated full-backs.
His form at Under-17 level has been consistent. He scored a decisive brace for Spain in a youth tournament earlier this year and was named captain of the Under-17 squad ahead of this summer's European Championship — a responsibility that carries weight at 16.
The goal against Estonia arrived on the same day that Luis de la Fuente confirmed his World Cup squad with no Real Madrid players included — a point opposition presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme used publicly to attack Florentino Pérez's transfer strategy.
For the club's academy, it was a different story entirely.
