Doku scored a stunning 90th-minute-plus equaliser in Manchester City's 3-3 draw at Everton before adding the opening goal in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Brentford — his first three-match scoring streak since joining the club from Rennes in 2023. City are now five points behind Arsenal with a game in hand heading into the final three matches of the season.
Guardiola was asked after the Brentford win whether Doku could eventually reach the heights of Vinícius and Yamal — the two wingers currently considered the best in world football.
"Yeah, for sure. And always accept being pushed. Always accept that. And that is so nice. We are really pleased. Now he is winning games. But he has always been really, really good."
Doku himself had said publicly that he believes he can become the best winger in the world if he increases his goal output — a statement his manager used as the basis for a broader point about what separates good players from great ones.
"It depends on your mentality. You say 'I want to become one of the best wingers in the world' — otherwise you are in a comfort zone saying 'it's fine, it's fine.' Jeremy has always had dribbles, work, whatever. He always tries. But now he says 'no, I want to become one of the best of the best.' That is when you reach that level."
Doku has eight goals and 14 assists across 43 appearances in all competitions this season — improved numbers compared to last year but still significantly behind Vinícius's 127 career goals for Real Madrid and Yamal's tally at Barcelona. The mentality question Guardiola raises is the gap.
City face Crystal Palace at home, a trip to Bournemouth and a final day encounter with Aston Villa. If Arsenal drop points, the title is still City's to take. Doku, right now, is their most dangerous player.
