Manchester City's players will return to the club this week for the first time since the verdict that found the club guilty of serious financial rule breaches.

The majority of Enzo Maresca's squad have spent the international break away with their countries, meaning the manager has had limited opportunity to address the verdict with the group collectively.

Manchester City are due back at the club on Thursday, when Maresca is expected to speak to his players ahead of Sunday's trip to Liverpool.

An independent commission found City guilty of serious breaches of Premier League financial rules over a nine-season period, including the use of sham commercial agreements to artificially inflate revenues and reduce costs.

The club has strongly contested the findings and has appealed the verdict.

The appeal means City remain focused on football while the legal process continues, with Maresca now tasked with keeping his squad focused ahead of a difficult fixture at Anfield.

City have made a flawless start to the Premier League season, taking 15 points from their opening five matches, and remain unbeaten.

The timing of the verdict means the Liverpool fixture will be their first match since the findings were published.

Several City players have remained at the club during the international break, including those not selected by their countries, while others will return at different times because of their international commitments.

The England contingent of Elliot Anderson, Marc Guehi and Rico Lewis are expected back after Tuesday's Nations League meeting with the Czech Republic.

Nico O'Reilly has returned early after picking up an injury, while Norway manager Stale Solbakken has played down concerns over Erling Haaland after the striker was substituted during the defeat by Portugal.

Haaland has been given several days away from his club, along with other Norway internationals.

Maresca is now preparing for his first major test since the verdict, with Liverpool waiting at Anfield on Sunday.

The City manager will also face questions about the potential consequences of the ruling, with possible sanctions ranging from financial penalties and points deductions to more serious sporting punishment.

For now, however, City's appeal remains ongoing and the focus inside the club will turn towards Liverpool and maintaining their perfect start to the Premier League campaign.
