The Sun reports that Manchester United sent a scout to Oslo on Sunday to watch the VĂ„lerenga winger, born Gabriel Larsen Rajkovic, in a league game against Fredrikstad, as they look for options in case JJ Gabriel leaves.
Gabriel, 15, asked United last week to cancel his registration and become a free agent after being left out of the Champions League squad for the game against Sabah, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea all interested in him.
Rajkovic has built his reputation fast. He made his senior debut in March at 15 years and 20 days old, breaking a record set by Martin Ădegaard, and then became the second-youngest goalscorer in Eliteserien history in August, at 15 years and 166 days, when he scored against BodĂž/Glimt, 15 days older than Ădegaard's record.
He has two goals and one assist in 14 league appearances this season, and has also scored in a 2-2 draw with Sarpsborg.
Norwegian reports say VĂ„lerenga could ask for around ÂŁ16 million if they sell him, which would break the club's transfer record, and his contract runs until December 2028.
There is a significant complication for United, though. European clubs cannot register Rajkovic until he turns 16 in February 2027, but post-Brexit work permit rules mean Premier League clubs cannot sign non-British players from abroad until they turn 18, so any route to Old Trafford would not open until 2029 at the earliest.
Gabriel's situation, by contrast, is more pressing. He would have become United's youngest-ever player, surpassing David Gaskell's 1956 record, had he featured in last Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie with Brighton. United believe the matter can still be resolved while he has time left on his contract, but are exploring alternatives regardless.
Manchester City, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are among the other clubs credited with interest in Rajkovic, according to Norwegian media, underlining how far his reputation has already spread for a player who cannot yet move abroad.
