Carrick was rewarded for his work by being appointed permanent manager on a contract running until 2028, with an option for a further year.
United have endured a difficult start to the new Premier League season, collecting five points from their opening five matches, and Carrick has faced criticism as a result.
Reports have suggested that United could be exploring alternatives, with former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte and former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe among the names linked with the club.
Romano, however, says United have not taken steps to approach another coach.
“Manchester United have currently not taken any steps to contact other coaches,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“Many of you keep asking me what the situation is with Carrick, whether Carrick is under pressure and what is really happening with him. On the other hand, many of you are asking whether there is a chance that Manchester United have already contacted or approached certain coaches.”
“My answer is clear: Manchester United have currently not taken any steps to contact other coaches,” he added.
According to Romano, the club remain confident in Carrick despite the disappointing results.
“Right now Manchester United continue to feel confident, also because — and I think this is an important point — within the club they believe that the players also support the coach,” he said.
Romano believes the relationship between Carrick and his squad is an important factor in the club’s current stance.
“Within the club they believe that, unlike previous situations where some players were not completely happy with the coach, in this case a large majority of the players fully support Michael Carrick’s ideas,” he added.
Carrick therefore remains in charge despite the scrutiny surrounding United’s start to the campaign.
The club’s position, according to Romano, is that there has been no approach to a potential replacement and that support from within the squad remains an important part of their assessment of the manager’s situation.
