Manchester City forward Iliman Ndiaye has refused to rule out a future return to Marseille after supporters called for him to come back to the French club.

The Senegal international joined City during the summer and has since taken another step forward in his career, but he has now hinted that his relationship with Marseille may not be over.

Ndiaye was asked about chants from Marseille supporters calling for him to return to the club and gave an intriguing response.

β€œThe cries from the supporters asking me to return to OM? It is nice. I don't think the story is over, but we'll see,” Ndiaye said, as reported by La Provence.

β€œI say that like that, I never know where it will take me. In any case, we'll see.”

The comments are unlikely to result in an immediate move, with Ndiaye now part of Manchester City's squad and Marseille operating under very different financial circumstances.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old's response will encourage supporters who have continued to hold him in high regard since his departure.

Ndiaye is currently with Senegal during the international break under Patrick Vieira, but his comments show that his time at Marseille remains an important part of his career.

The forward spent one season at the French club before moving to England, where his performances have helped him earn the opportunity to play at one of the Premier League's biggest clubs.

A return to Marseille would therefore be complicated by both his current status and the financial demands involved in any potential deal.

For now, Ndiaye has not committed himself to a future transfer and made no promise that he will return to the club. His comments were deliberately open-ended, leaving the possibility alive without suggesting that negotiations are taking place.

That distinction will matter to Marseille, whose supporters may hope to see him back in the future but would face significant obstacles to making the move happen.

Ndiaye's message was nevertheless clear enough to keep the dream alive.

He has not closed the door on Marseille, and for a player who clearly retains affection for the club and its supporters, the possibility of returning one day remains open.
