Portuguese reports had spent the past few days painting Al Ahli as the club best placed to sign the 26-year-old, with Sporting open to a deal worth around €50million (£42.1million) and the Saudi club prepared to quadruple his current €2.5million net annual salary.
However, Portuguese newspaper Record now reports that Trincao has decided to slow things down, wanting a few days to consider his future following Portugal's exit from the World Cup, with the possibility of staying in Europe still very much alive.
According to Record, Manchester City are among the clubs monitoring the situation, with new head coach Enzo Maresca an admirer of Trincao's profile and sporting director Hugo Viana familiar with the winger from their time together at Sporting.
City's interest comes with a caveat, though: the Premier League runners-up are only expected to make a concrete move if Savinho leaves the Etihad this summer, and Trincao is not considered an active target until that happens.
Tottenham's situation appears more immediate, with Record reporting that Spurs see Trincao as competition for Mohammed Kudus on the right, as well as cover in a central attacking midfield role given Xavi Simons is sidelined until February and James Maddison continues his recovery from injury.
Al Ahli remain prepared to pay the €50million valuation Sporting are seeking, meaning any Premier League move would need to match that figure. With Jorge Mendes representing the player, there is also a possibility that publicised interest from City and Tottenham forms part of a wider negotiation designed to push Al Ahli towards an improved package. For now, the Saudi offer remains the benchmark against which any European interest will be measured.
Trincao enjoyed a strong campaign last season, recording 11 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions for Sporting, and is contracted to the Lisbon club until 2030 with a release clause in the region of €60million.
The Portugal international, who has previous Premier League experience through a loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers, is expected to reach a decision on his future in the coming days.
