Read leaves door open on Feyenoord exit amid Man City and Bayern interest

Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read has not ruled out a move to Manchester City or Bayern Munich this summer, but says he would be happy staying too.

Read has not ruled out a move to one of Europe's superpowers this summer, but the Feyenoord right-back insists he would also be content spending another season in Rotterdam if his future takes a different turn.

Read, who came close to a move to Manchester City or Bayern Munich earlier this year, told Voetbal International that nothing is decided either way.

"To be honest, I don't know what the future will bring; it could still go either way. I don't necessarily feel like I need to leave Feyenoord, because I feel good in this team and I have a good feeling about the new coach. But you never know what can happen."

The interest from Germany never became concrete, though Read stopped short of ruling it out entirely.

"But that can still happen. I don't know exactly how that stands. That's for my agent to handle. But I don't need to lie about it either - several clubs have come in."

A longer stay in De Kuip remains a genuine possibility as far as the defender is concerned, not least because of unfinished business on the pitch.

"I haven't become champion with Feyenoord yet, that's a real goal. We're going for that this season, if it's all meant to be."

Beyond silverware, Read also has his sights set on a first senior call-up for the Netherlands, aware of the scale of the challenge he faces given the calibre of competition in his position.

"But I have decent competition with Denzel Dumfries, Jurrien Timber, Jeremie Frimpong and Lutsharel Geertruida. Those are really good guys, I know that. But I also have to believe in myself. I would love to make my debut for Oranje this season," said Read, who has so far represented the Netherlands at Under-21 level on a single occasion.

The 20-year-old, whose contract at Feyenoord runs until the summer of 2029, is valued by Transfermarkt at โ‚ฌ25million, and has previously been tracked by both Manchester City and Bayern Munich since as far back as December, according to reports in the Netherlands.

Feyenoord will be hoping his openness to staying, combined with his enthusiasm for the club's new coaching setup, translates into a settled campaign regardless of how the transfer speculation ultimately resolves itself.
