The 25-year-old forward, who left Malmö permanently in January 2022 when Heerenveen paid £2.3m to sign him, has struggled to establish himself in Serie A this season. He made 34 league appearances for Hellas Verona but only nine from the start, contributing a single assist and no goals in the Italian top flight.
Verona exercised their option to buy Sarr last summer, signing him on a permanent basis from Olympique Lyon for around £3.5m. He is contracted at the club until June 2029.
Sarr's career has followed a well-travelled path since leaving Sweden. From Heerenveen he moved to Lyon in January 2023 for around £11m, spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, and then spent last season on loan at Verona before the Italian club made the deal permanent.
Swedish outlet Gasetten reports that Malmö have made the approach and asked whether Sarr would be open to returning, but no concrete transfer discussions have begun. The player's attitude toward the idea remains unclear.
Whether Verona would sanction a loan given that they only recently committed to a permanent deal is also an open question.
Sarr won the Allsvenskan title with Malmö in 2020 during his first stint at the club. A return would represent a significant step back in league level, though one that might offer him the consistent playing time his European career has so far failed to deliver.
