The 26-year-old Dutch left-back, who joined from Feyenoord in July 2022 for around 15 million pounds, was named in the squad for Sunday's 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest but did not come off the bench. After the final whistle, Malacia was presented with a commemorative shirt in front of the Stretford End.
Interim manager Michael Carrick made a point of addressing the crowd on Malacia's behalf.
"There's Tyrell, who I spoke to the boys about before kick-off. He's been through a tough time due to injuries. I encourage you to show him your support."
Malacia made 49 appearances in total across his Manchester United career, including as part of the squad that won the Carabao Cup in 2023. The misfortune began in earnest when he required knee surgery that ruled him out for the entirety of the 2023-24 season.
He returned under Ruben Amorim in December 2024, spent the second half of 2024-25 on loan at PSV Eindhoven — where he won the Eredivisie title — and was then denied a permanent move when United could not agree a deal with any interested clubs last summer or in January.
This season he made two Premier League appearances, both as a late substitute in fixtures against Newcastle United, accumulating a total of seven minutes. United held a one-year extension option on his contract and chose not to activate it.
Casemiro, whose departure was also formally confirmed on Sunday after eight years at the club, will join Malacia in leaving when his contract expires. Striker Rasmus Højlund has already sealed a permanent move to Napoli.
Malacia is free to sign a pre-contract with any club and is expected to attract interest from clubs across the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Turkey as he looks to rebuild his career at 26.
