Loris Karius says he wants to play for several more years, with the Schalke 04 goalkeeper feeling fit and settled rather than thinking about retirement.

Asked by Sport Bild whether he could finish his career in Gelsenkirchen, Karius said he wants to continue playing for several years.

“I want to play for a few more years, I feel completely fit and believe I can still get better. At the moment, I feel perfectly at home here.”

The 33-year-old joined Schalke in January 2025 and has since become an important figure for the side. He has been named man of the match four times this Bundesliga season, underlining his influence as Schalke returned to the top flight.

Karius’s current contract runs until 2028, meaning he is not yet facing an immediate decision over his playing future. His comments nevertheless offer a clear indication that retirement is not on his mind and that he is enjoying his time with the club.

The goalkeeper has experienced a varied career, including spells at Liverpool and Newcastle United, as well as a loan return to former club Union Berlin. His time at Liverpool brought him into the spotlight during the 2018 Champions League final, but he has since worked to rebuild his career and establish himself again.

At Schalke, Karius has found regular football and the trust of the club. His latest comments suggest he wants to make the most of that stability rather than view the move as a final stop before retirement.

The goalkeeper believes there is still scope for further development despite being in his thirties. With his deal secured for another two seasons beyond the current campaign, he has time to focus on performances rather than a decision about when to stop.

Karius did not commit to ending his career at Schalke, but his present outlook is positive. For now, he is focused on continuing to play and improving, while his form has helped make him one of the team’s key figures.
