The Argentina international has two years remaining on his current agreement, which expires in June 2028, and his recent performances have strengthened the case for another deal.
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are not currently prioritising negotiations, although that position could change if Mac Allister maintains his improved level through the season.
The midfielder endured a difficult campaign last term but has started the current season more strongly, contributing goals and helping Liverpool regain control in midfield. His two goals in the Champions League victory over Villarreal were another reminder of his ability to influence important matches.
Mac Allister previously expressed disappointment after learning that Liverpool were not in a position to offer him an extension during the summer. His comments came as teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch secured new contracts.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad,” he said in September.
Despite that frustration, the 27-year-old stressed his commitment to Liverpool and said he would continue giving his best for the club while his future remained unresolved.
The uncertainty has attracted attention from elsewhere in Europe. Atlético Madrid reportedly explored his situation during the summer, while Manchester City have also been linked with interest. Atlético are said to remain attentive to developments, although there is no indication that a transfer is close.
Mac Allister’s contract position could become more significant as the season progresses. If he continues to perform well and enters the final 18 months of his deal without an extension, Liverpool may face increasing pressure to decide whether to negotiate or consider the possibility of a future departure.
However, the club’s current stance is not necessarily a final decision. Reports suggest Liverpool could reconsider if the midfielder sustains his recent form, and the player himself has indicated that he remains happy to be at Anfield.
Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 and was part of the squad that won the Premier League in 2024-25. His renewed influence has strengthened his position in the team, but whether that leads to a new contract remains uncertain.
For now, Liverpool appear willing to assess his performances over a longer period rather than accelerate discussions. The coming months should provide a clearer indication of whether the club’s position changes.
