Konaté struggled for consistency towards the end of last season, and with ongoing contract talk surrounding him, Warnock says questions are fair.
“There’s talk about Real Madrid,” Warnock told Football Presse. “But if Real Madrid are watching at the moment, I don’t think they’ll be too impressed with what they’re seeing.”
Liverpool’s sporting structure — led by Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards — backed Konaté to bounce back after the summer.
“I think one of the things they’ll have looked at was maybe a bit of time off, a reassessment, that he’d come back stronger,” Warnock said.
But football rarely follows neat plans.
When the Guehi move collapsed, Liverpool were left exposed. Injuries compounded the issue. Suddenly, depth looked thin.
“I don’t think they could have foreseen everything,” Warnock admitted. “But my big thing again would just be the timing of the Guehi transfer.”
For Warnock, it isn’t just about one failed deal. It’s about having certainty before the window shuts.
“Make sure the players are through the door and you know exactly what your squad is before you go into that final day.”
Right now, Liverpool don’t have that certainty.
And that’s the real concern.
