Lazio announced on Friday that they had reached and closed an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of midfielder Bruno Galassi, structured as a purchase of his sporting contract rights "with a percentage owed on any future resale."
The 19-year-old, who is of Argentine origin but was born in Lleida, Spain, had been part of Real Madrid's youth setup since 2023 and is now ready to make the step up to professional football in Serie A.
Primarily a central midfielder who can also adapt to play as a centre-back, Galassi could prove valuable for Gattuso, though he will need time to adjust to a new style of football in a different country.
Real Madrid's percentage in the event of a future sale is expected to be around 50%, mirroring the structure of Lazio's purchase of Mario Gila back in 2022, while the Biancocelesti have paid Real Madrid a fee of around €4m for Galassi's registration. The deal continues a familiar pattern for Real Madrid, who have increasingly used sell-on clauses and buy-back options when moving on academy graduates who have not broken into the first-team picture at Valdebebas.
Galassi began his career in the Rayo Vallecano academy before moving to Getafe and eventually joining Real Madrid's youth ranks, rising through the club's various age groups before featuring for Real Madrid C last season.
He has been training with Lazio's first-team squad since the start of pre-season at Formello, giving him an early opportunity to impress Gattuso and his coaching staff, even though he is expected to spend much of the coming campaign with the club's Primavera side before any potential involvement with the senior squad.
The transfer forms part of a broader trend at Lazio, where sporting director Angelo Fabiani has increasingly turned to promising young talent from elsewhere in Europe amid the club's tighter financial constraints in recent transfer windows.
Galassi's versatility, capable of playing as a holding midfielder, a box-to-box option or dropping into central defence when required, gives Gattuso a flexible piece to work with as he shapes his squad for the upcoming Serie A campaign, even if the teenager's immediate route into regular first-team football is likely to run through the club's youth and reserve setup first.
