Lazio close in on Asp Jensen as they also eye Gila successor

Lazio are on the verge of completing a second signing of the summer, with an official offer for Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jonathan Asp Jensen now sitting with the German club awaiting a final response.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, all indications point to Bayern Munich accepting in the coming hours, which would allow Lazio to confirm the Danish teenager's arrival and have him report to Formello in time for the start of Gennaro Gattuso's pre-season training, due to begin within a week.

Talks accelerated once Lazio's hierarchy reached an agreement in principle with the entourage of the 2006-born playmaker, who is represented by the same agency as club team-mates Gustav Isaksen and Oliver Provstgaard. Bayern had initially proposed a permanent sale worth €4m but wanted a sell-on percentage that Lazio considered excessive.

To sidestep that demand and head off interest from Deportivo La Coruna, Lazio instead structured an offer built around a loan worth €500,000 with an obligation to buy set at €5.5 million, a package expected to satisfy a Bayern side already prepared to let the player leave. Asp Jensen has agreed personal terms on a five-year deal worth 1.5 million euros a season plus rising bonuses.

Attention at Formello is already turning to defensive reinforcements too, with Mario Gila's move to AC Milan advancing steadily and Lazio having identified Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Sergi Dominguez as his likely successor. The 21-year-old Spaniard came through Barcelona's academy before joining Dinamo last summer, and has established himself as a regular starter in Croatia, drawing interest from elsewhere in Europe including Serie A rivals and Premier League clubs.

Initial contact over a deal for the Spaniard has already been made with Zvonimir Boban, the former Milan midfielder who now holds an executive role at Dinamo. The Croatian club are said to be seeking around €12 million, while Lazio hope to open negotiations closer to nine million plus add-ons, a gap the two sides will need to close before any deal can progress.

The Dominguez pursuit is expected to gather pace only once Milan formalise their move for Gila, with the funds generated by that sale earmarked to help finance the move for the player Lazio see as the ideal fit to rebuild their back line.

Head coach Gattuso has made central defence a priority for the summer window, with the club keen to have a long-term successor to Gila in place well before the new season gets under way.
