The 37-year-old takes over after spending the past 18 months managing Wacker Burghausen, marking a new step in his coaching career within one of Europe’s most prestigious academies.
Bayern Munich confirmed the appointment as part of their continued focus on developing elite youth talent at the club’s campus.
Bender, who previously enjoyed a long playing career in the Bundesliga, including 12 years with Bayer Leverkusen, said the opportunity represents a significant privilege.
“It is a privilege to take on this role at Bayern,” Bender said.
“The discussions from the beginning were very positive and I am looking forward to the challenge.”
Bayern’s youth director Michael Wiesinger praised the appointment, highlighting Bender’s experience both as a player and developing coach.
He is expected to work closely with assistants Philipp Deppner and Benjamin Kauffmann as part of the U17 setup.
The move continues Bayern’s strategy of integrating former professionals into key academy roles to strengthen long-term player development pathways.
