Gil Marín had been unequivocal on the matter, telling Marca: "Our answer really is infinite — we don't accept an offer of €100m for Julián, or one of €200m."
But Laporta has no intention of walking away from the deal, insisting the offer he has put forward remains live.
"We have an offer on the table. He's a player our coach wants, which is why we made the offer to Atlético de Madrid. It's a very important, very good offer for us," Laporta said, speaking from New York, where he has travelled for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
The Barcelona president addressed Gil Marín's comments directly, choosing a measured tone rather than escalating the row further.
"I respect everyone's opinion. I respect Miguel Ángel's opinion, and everyone's."
Still, Laporta remains convinced the move can happen, pointing to past transfers that once looked impossible.
"There are so many cases where it's been said a player would never go to Barça, and they've ended up coming."
For Laporta, the player's own wishes should carry the most weight, with Álvarez having already made his desire to leave Atletico Madrid known to those inside the club.
"When a player wants to leave, Barça's attitude as a club is that if a player wants to go, we build him a silver bridge. A big club can't afford to have players who are unhappy."
Laporta closed by stressing the offer will not stay open indefinitely, urging Atlético to make the most of what he called a significant proposal.
"It's not just about the offer that's been made — but also, if there's a good offer on the table, it should be taken advantage of."
Álvarez has scored 49 goals and provided 17 assists in 106 appearances for Atlético since joining from Manchester City in August 2024, and is contracted until 2030 with a €500m release clause.
