The episode occurred as Madrid celebrated Kylian Mbappé’s late goal in their 2-1 victory over Barcelona. Camavinga had played a major part in the move before joining his team-mates near the stand to celebrate.
Video footage circulated on Monday appeared to show supporters swinging large flags towards the players, with some of the poles making contact with the French international. Objects were also thrown from the stand as the Madrid players celebrated.
LaLiga confirmed it would report the incident to the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The organisation said it remained committed to eliminating violence and intolerance from Spanish football.
The incident has prompted fresh scrutiny of the behaviour of a small number of supporters during a match that had otherwise passed without major crowd trouble. Madrid players moved Camavinga away from the stand after the contact, while team-mates intervened to calm the situation.
The celebrations followed a decisive moment in the match. Mbappé scored the winner in the 88th minute after a run by Camavinga, giving José Mourinho’s Madrid side a significant away victory over their rivals.
The referee’s report also recorded objects being thrown during the celebrations, including a water bottle and a drinks can. The footage of the contact with the flagpoles has since brought a separate disciplinary issue into focus.
LaLiga’s referral will allow the relevant committee to examine the available evidence and consider any action that may be warranted. A report does not itself determine the punishment, and any potential sanction will depend on the disciplinary process.
The incident has overshadowed part of the reaction to Madrid’s victory, with attention now turning to how the authorities respond. LaLiga has made clear that it intends to pursue the matter through the established disciplinary channels.
