The report came from Radio MARCA programme La Tribu, where journalist Javier Tintó claimed that Mbappé had asked Real Madrid during derby week to make an effort to promote his bid for the individual award.
According to Tintó, the forward’s request was rejected by the club, which he then linked to Mbappé’s attitude during the derby.
Mbappé responded directly on social media after Radio MARCA published a post containing the claims.
“😂😂😂... yes, well yes, and I also confused myself with my great-aunt,” Mbappé wrote.
The Frenchman’s response was clearly sarcastic and represented a direct rejection of the story surrounding his alleged dispute with the club.
Tintó had claimed that Mbappé wanted Real Madrid to support his Ballon d’Or campaign and had also asked Zinedine Zidane to make an effort on his behalf.
“What I’m told is that during derby week Mbappé asks the club for an effort and to run a campaign in favour of his Ballon d’Or, which is what interests him,” Tintó said on Radio MARCA.
He then connected the alleged refusal to Mbappé’s performance during the match, suggesting that the forward’s behaviour was influenced by his frustration.
The claims quickly attracted attention because they suggested a disagreement between Mbappé and Real Madrid over the player’s ambitions for the award.
Mbappé’s response, however, gave no indication that he accepted the account. Instead, he chose to mock the report publicly, dismissing the suggestion through humour.
The exchange has therefore added another layer to the discussion around Mbappé and his Ballon d’Or hopes, although the player himself has now directly rejected the explanation offered for his derby performance.
