Kompany on Kane, Olise and Manchester City

Vincent Kompany says his priority is to create the right conditions for Harry Kane to remain at Bayern Munich, as club director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expresses confidence that the striker and Michael Olise will extend their stays.

Kane’s contract situation has become an important subject for Bayern Munich, with the England captain’s current deal approaching its final stages. Olise, meanwhile, is contracted until the summer of 2029, but Bayern are also keen to secure the Frenchman’s long-term future.

Speaking to Sky Sport, Kompany declined to disclose details of the negotiations, stressing that the discussions belong to the players, their representatives and the club’s leadership.

“I am always respectful of this situation and of the discussions needed between the player, his agent and the club,” the Bayern coach said.

Kompany believes his responsibility is to ensure Kane feels settled and performs at his best, rather than becoming directly involved in the contractual process.

“My responsibility is to make sure Harry feels good here, that he performs on the pitch, or at least that he is in an environment that allows him to do so,” he explained.

“Generally, if things are done well, the rest falls into place more easily.”

Rummenigge has sounded optimistic about the prospect of new agreements for both forwards. Speaking to German outlet Ran, the former Bayern chief executive said the players wanted to remain at the club for the long term.

“Both of them intend to stay at Bayern for a long time. I hope — and I am also completely convinced — that Harry will extend his contract soon. Michael will be next,” Rummenigge said.

He also underlined the importance of retaining players of their calibre, describing Kane and Olise as world-class performers who have become vital to Bayern.

Rummenigge believes Kane has a particularly strong case for the Ballon d’Or this year, pointing to his goals and trophies as evidence of his individual contribution.

While Bayern work on their contract plans, Kompany has also been asked about the financial controversy surrounding his former club, Manchester City. The Belgian spent 11 years at City, making 360 appearances and becoming one of the club’s most influential figures.

However, he has insisted that the ongoing case is not occupying his thoughts as he concentrates on his current job in Germany.

“I only think about my work at Bayern. We have important matches ahead, and that will take a lot of time. There isn’t much time to think about everything else,” he said.

Kompany added that he loved his time at City and remained proud of what the team achieved together, but reiterated that Bayern and their upcoming fixtures were his focus.

For now, the coach is leaving the contract negotiations to the relevant parties while Bayern seek to keep two of their most important attacking players.
