According to Sport Bild, Klopp has informed Stuttgart that he is monitoring Pejčinović as a potential Germany option for UEFA Euro 2028. The 21-year-old is currently part of the Germany Under-21 setup, but his progress has brought him into the senior coach’s wider thinking.
Klopp will officially begin his tenure as Germany head coach on August 15, after signing a four-year contract that takes him through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.
That gives Pejčinović time to establish himself at VfB Stuttgart before Klopp has to finalise his squad for the European Championship. The centre-forward arrived from VfL Wolfsburg in a deal worth around €25 million and has signed a contract running until 2031.
The transfer represents a major step for a striker who has already demonstrated his scoring ability across Germany’s youth teams. Pejčinović spent the previous stage of his career at Wolfsburg, where his development made him one of the more closely watched young forwards in German football.
Stuttgart’s pursuit of him was not straightforward. The club had to negotiate over the valuation, with earlier reports indicating that Wolfsburg were demanding €25 million while the Swabians initially tried to bridge the gap with a lower fee plus bonuses.
The eventual agreement means Stuttgart have committed significant funds to a player they believe can develop into a senior-level striker. For Pejčinović, meanwhile, the move provides an opportunity to establish himself at a club competing at the top end of the Bundesliga.
His next challenge is to turn the promise shown at youth international level into consistent senior performances. A strong first season at Stuttgart would strengthen the case for Klopp to give him an opportunity with the Germany squad.
The timing is particularly interesting because Klopp has made clear that younger players will be part of his thinking as he begins reshaping the national team. The DFB has confirmed that his contract covers both Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, giving the new coach a long-term window in which to assess the next generation.
For now, Pejčinović remains an Under-21 international rather than an established Germany senior player. But being identified by Klopp as someone to watch for 2028 means the Stuttgart striker has already entered a much bigger conversation before even making his competitive debut for his new club.
