Maeson King has signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, securing his future at the club he joined as a nine-year-old after recovering from a long-term injury that disrupted his 2025-26 campaign.

The 20-year-old left-back and centre-back had been in and around Roberto De Zerbi's first-team squad throughout the season, featuring on the bench in both the Premier League victory at Southampton and the Europa League draw with Roma. His versatility and left-footedness were key factors in the club's decision to offer him fresh terms.

King spoke warmly about the environment he has grown up in at Hotspur Way and paid particular tribute to veteran left-back Ben Davies, who has helped ease his transition into senior football.

"It's an amazing feeling, you always want to be here and keep pushing and when you look around it's one of the best places to be so, yeah it's a really good feeling," King said. "I signed here when I was nine from Sunday league and I've just progressed through the ranks, every age group and it's actually been a smooth ride so far."

He added: "It's good being adaptable because it helps you to be able to cover many positions. Especially being left-footed it helps as well because there's not many left-footed defenders about."

King singled out Davies for specific praise.

"Ben Davies especially, being a left-back and him being a senior player, he brought me in quite well. He just brings you into the environment and tells you to just be yourself and train as if you're over with the under-21s so you don't have any stress or worries about who you're training with. It's a great experience and you learn so much from it just being in and around it even if it's just training."

Davies, himself recovering from an ankle injury that limited his 2025-26 season, is also expected to have his own contract extended by the club. The Welsh international has served Tottenham since joining from Swansea City in 2014 and has operated as a reliable squad figure across multiple managerial regimes.

King's renewal sits within a broader reshaping of Tottenham's defensive structure under De Zerbi, who has already added Andrew Robertson from Liverpool on a free transfer and is closing in on Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth.

For King, a player who has grown up watching the first team from within the academy, the next step is to make the matchday squad a regular occurrence rather than an exception.
