Juventus table lucrative offer for Bernardo Silva as Barcelona lurk

Juventus have presented Bernardo Silva with a concrete proposal as they attempt to convince the Manchester City captain to move to Turin on a free transfer this summer, with Barcelona emerging as the primary obstacle to completing the deal.

Silva confirmed earlier this week that he will leave City when his contract expires in June, ending a nine-year spell in which he won every major honour available to him. Juventus have responded by tabling a three-year contract with an option for a fourth season, with A Bola reporting a proposed salary of between โ‚ฌ8 and โ‚ฌ9 million per year โ€” which would make him the highest-paid player at the club, above even Kenan Yildiz.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus are the only Serie A club to have laid out a convincing project to the Portugal international, and Silva is understood to be genuinely tempted. However, Barcelona remain the biggest threat. Silva has long been attracted to the idea of playing at Camp Nou, and the Catalan club are also in contention for his signature.

Other interested parties include clubs from Saudi Arabia, MLS and Benfica. City assistant Pep Lijnders, speaking after a recent FA Cup win over Liverpool, offered an emotional tribute to the outgoing captain.

"Every good story comes to an end. I hope Bernardo enjoys his last six weeks, that he has a good ending because he deserves it."

Silva is expected to take his time before making a decision, with no announcement likely before the end of April at the earliest.
