Woltemade, who wears the number 27 shirt under Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti, addressed the comparison during an interview with DAZN, describing it as a source of immense pride given the source.
"Being mentioned in the same sentence as Ibrahimovic, especially coming from Buffon, is incredible," Woltemade said. "When you hear players of that level talking about you it's a really great feeling, so I really appreciated what he said about me, comparing me to Ibrahimovic, and I hope I can one day say I've managed to replicate what he did and tick that box.
"Buffon is a legend, just the fact that he says my name makes me proud."
The German forward, who has also earned 12 caps for the national team, went on to explain the influence Zlatan Ibrahimovic had on him growing up.
"Ibrahimovic has always been a point of reference for me. He was a player I loved watching, for his technique, his ability and his agility, I learned a lot watching him. He's been an idol of mine forever," Woltemade said.
The comparison from Buffon, one of the most decorated goalkeepers in the sport's history and a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, is the latest sign of the impression Woltemade has made since his move to Turin on a season-long loan from Newcastle United, agreed on transfer deadline day.
Newcastle had paid Stuttgart around €75 million for Woltemade last summer after his breakout campaign in the Bundesliga, where he scored 18 goals in 36 appearances, but he managed just 11 goal contributions in his single season on Tyneside before dropping down the pecking order under new head coach Matthias Jaissle.
Standing at 1.98 metres and wearing the number 27 shirt at Juventus, the same number he wore at Newcastle, Woltemade has been earmarked as Luciano Spalletti's central attacking focal point this season, with the club hoping his move to Italy can help rediscover the form that made him one of the standout performers in the Bundesliga before his big-money move to England.
