Juventus revive interest in António Silva as Benfica contract talks stall

Juventus have renewed their pursuit of Benfica centre-back António Silva, the 22-year-old Portuguese international, after contract extension talks between the defender and the Lisbon club broke down, according to A Bola.

Silva's contract with Benfica runs until 2027, leaving the club at risk of losing him for a significantly reduced fee this summer if no new agreement is found.

Renewal talks have stalled, with the player unhappy about how the process has been managed and seeking sporting guarantees that Benfica are currently unable to provide — not least because the club's coaching situation for next season remains unresolved following Jose Mourinho's imminent departure.

Silva has made 41 appearances this season but has slipped to third choice in Benfica's defensive pecking order behind Nicolás Otamendi and Tomás Araújo, reducing both his playing time and the leverage he might otherwise have had in contract negotiations.

Juventus have pursued Silva persistently since December 2024, when his agent Jorge Mendes publicly confirmed the club's interest. A move was blocked in January 2025 when Benfica refused to sanction the sale.

With Mourinho's relationship with Silva cited as a key reason for Benfica's previous desire to retain him, that dynamic changes significantly once Mourinho's departure is formalised.

The Bianconeri are also pursuing Bernardo Silva from Manchester City — another Mendes client — and it is understood that the two negotiations could be linked or packaged as part of broader discussions.

Benfica are now believed to be willing to sell for a fee in the region of €20m to €25m, a significant reduction from the €100m release clause previously cited, reflecting both the contract situation and Silva's diminished role.
