Juventus have sent a formal offer to free agent Franck Kessie as they continue to search for midfield reinforcements, while also facing interest from Rennes in forward Jonathan David.

The Bianconeri have offered around €3.5m to the Ivorian midfielder, who became a free agent after leaving Saudi club Al Ahli, according to Sky Sport.

Kessie, 29, is keen to return to a high level of European football, and Juventus are reportedly ready to increase their offer as soon as Wednesday in an effort to secure his signature. The move would reunite Kessie with new chief football officer Frederic Massara, who first brought the midfielder to Europe during his time at Milan in the summer of 2017.

Should the deal progress as expected, Kessie would provide Luciano Spalletti with a physical, experienced presence in front of the defence.

At the other end of the squad, Juventus could be set to lose Jonathan David, who joined the club last summer on a free transfer following the end of his contract at Lille. The 26-year-old Canadian scored 25 goals and provided 12 assists in his final season at the French club before making the move to Turin, but has struggled for consistency in Serie A and is reportedly not part of Spalletti's plans for the season ahead.

Rennes have registered interest in the forward as they look to strengthen their attack, with Juve valuing him at around €30m, meaning any deal would require a significant investment from the Ligue 1 club.

Despite the scale of the fee required, Rennes are said to be willing to explore the feasibility of a deal in order to hand head coach Franck Haise a recognised centre-forward for the new campaign. David could therefore be among the more prominent departures from Turin this summer, even as Juventus continue working to strengthen other areas of Spalletti's squad following his difficult first season in charge.
