England will come up against Erling Haaland and company with a place in the last four at stake, but Tuchel has again had to manage several fitness issues in his defence during the build-up.
James has been absent since England's draw with Ghana because of a hamstring problem, while Jarell Quansah is suspended for two matches after being sent off during the dramatic round of 16 win over Mexico. James, though, appears to be back in contention after training with the rest of the squad on Friday.
He was joined at that session by Guehi and Rice, both of whom had missed training on Wednesday. Guehi felt his hamstring after the win over Mexico, raising the prospect of a further defensive reshuffle for Tuchel, while Rice, who has also briefly filled in at right-back during the tournament, had been troubled by illness.
Guehi, who moved to Manchester City this summer, would come up against his club team-mate Haaland if selected to start against Norway.
Jordan Henderson was the only player missing from Friday's session, having undergone surgery on a broken wrist. His absence leaves Tuchel with a settled midfield picture regardless, with Rice's return to full training removing one of the more pressing concerns from the past 48 hours.
Quansah's suspension, meanwhile, leaves Tuchel needing to find a solution at right-back regardless of James's fitness, with the versatile Rice among those who have been used there in the tournament so far.
With James, Guehi and Rice all appearing to have shaken off their respective issues, Tuchel looks set to have something close to a full-strength squad available to select from as England chase a place in the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2018.
Norway, inspired by Haaland's goalscoring form and a run that has included an impressive win over Brazil, are expected to provide a stern test of England's defensive resilience regardless of who Tuchel selects at the back.
