Jadon Sancho is considering a possible return to football in Spain after Getafe offered him a contract for the remainder of the season, with the proposed wages far below his previous earnings at Manchester United.

The 26-year-old winger has been without a club since his United contract expired at the end of last season. The offer is worth €400,000 in total until June, according to The Telegraph, equivalent to roughly £335,000 over the remaining months of the campaign.

That would represent a sharp drop from the approximately £250,000 a week he was reportedly earning at Old Trafford. Getafe are operating under financial constraints and the proposed terms reflect the club’s limited resources.

Sancho has not ruled out accepting the offer. Playing in LaLiga appeals to him, and regular football could give him an opportunity to rebuild his career after several unsettled seasons in England.

However, the move is not yet agreed. Sancho wants to meet Getafe coach José Bordalås before deciding whether to commit, with the manager himself having voiced concerns about recruitment and the depth of the squad available to him.

Sancho joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a reported ÂŁ73 million, but he struggled to establish himself consistently. He subsequently returned to Dortmund on loan, spent time at Chelsea and then joined Aston Villa for last season.

At Villa, he made 39 appearances and was part of the squad that won the Europa League, coming on as a late substitute in the final. His contract with United then expired, leaving him free to negotiate with other clubs without a transfer fee.

The prospect of moving to Spain could offer a fresh start, but the financial terms underline how far his situation has changed since arriving in Manchester as one of English football’s most highly rated young attackers.

Getafe would gain an experienced international without paying a transfer fee, although the club’s offer would need to be acceptable to the player. Sancho must decide whether the chance to return to competitive football outweighs the considerable reduction in wages.

For now, the proposal remains on the table rather than a completed signing. A meeting with BordalĂĄs is expected to help determine whether the two sides can find an agreement.
