Liverpool have completed the signing of defender Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais on a long-term contract, subject to international clearance.

The Reds agreed a deal to bring the Frenchman to Anfield earlier this year, and the transfer is set to be ratified in the coming days.

Jacquet progressed through the youth ranks at Rennes to make 33 senior appearances for the Ligue 1 club.

Twenty-one of those came during the 2025-26 campaign, which was cut short for the centre-back after he sustained a shoulder injury in February.

The France Under-21 international also gained experience during a loan spell of around 12 months with Clermont Foot, making 24 appearances.

Jacquet recently visited the AXA Training Centre for the first time and sat down with Liverpoolfc.com for his first interview as a Red.

"I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here," he said. "When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here and I am very excited to get started."

Jacquet explained why Liverpool felt like the right move for him and his family.

"It's a legendary club, and the football philosophy and project really appealed to me," he said. "My family and I believe we have made the right choice and we feel really happy here."

The defender missed the final months of last season because of the shoulder injury but says he is now closing in on full fitness.

"I feel much improved and I will be 100 per cent ready [for the start of pre-season] because I'm a little ahead of schedule," he said. "I was given the go-ahead to start a programme of training with the group [at Stade Rennais], but it was a bit late to be with the team. But with continued hard work I'll be fully fit before the season."

Jacquet is set to travel with his new team-mates to the United States during pre-season and is looking forward to lining up alongside Virgil van Dijk.

"I think he's up there with the best centre-backs in the world currently, so I can only learn from him," he said.

Asked about the qualities he can bring to the squad, Jacquet pointed to his athleticism and composure.

"I'm quite an athletic player and it is often said that I'm pretty quick, despite being so tall," he said. "I think I'm decent playing out from the back and I'm fairly calm and composed on the pitch."

Jacquet has captained France throughout the youth age groups and believes leadership is another attribute he can offer.

"I'm pretty talkative out there on the pitch, even though I'm fairly reserved off it," he said. "I think that on the field that will evolve naturally."

Walking past the club's trophy cabinet left a lasting impression on the defender.

"I really want to be part of the history of this club," he said.

Jacquet added that he and his family, who joined him for the visit to the training centre, are excited for pre-season training and matches to begin.
