Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea this summer after Bayern Munich confirmed they will not be triggering the purchase option in the Senegalese forward's season-long loan deal.

Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the decision publicly, telling ZDF that the club does not intend to activate the clause, ending what was always a secondary chapter for Jackson in Bavaria. The 24-year-old joined Bayern Munich last September with a buy-out clause understood to be in the region of 65 million euros built into the arrangement.

The clause was structured around appearance thresholds that Jackson never came close to meeting. Operating as cover for Harry Kane, the former Chelsea striker managed just under a thousand minutes across 34 appearances, contributing 11 goals and four assists in all competitions.

Bayern marked his departure at their final home game of the season against Cologne, presenting Jackson alongside two other outgoing players with flowers and a large commemorative poster before a 5-1 win in which Kane scored a hat-trick. Jackson came off the bench in the 82nd minute and scored immediately.

The question now facing incoming Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso is whether to reintegrate Jackson into a squad that has also developed Liam Delap during his absence. According to Fabrizio Romano, Jackson's representatives will meet with Chelsea's board to discuss his future. A permanent exit has not been ruled out, with Juventus, Newcastle United and Everton among the clubs credited with interest, alongside interest from Saudi Arabia.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 and remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033. His value on the open market is understood to hover around 45 to 55 million pounds.
