The 26-year-old striker joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in September 2025 for £125 million but struggled to make an impact from the start, arriving underprepared after spending the summer pushing for a transfer rather than training.
A fibula fracture sustained in a December match at Tottenham Hotspur — the result of a tackle by Micky van de Ven — then ruled him out until April, restricting his season to 14 league appearances, three goals and one assist.
He spoke to Sportbladet about the experience in blunt terms.
"It has not been that much fun, partly for me personally and my season, but also how it has gone for us as a team. That is the most important thing — it goes hand in hand with how I want to perform. It has been a tough and educational season."
Despite missing Sweden's World Cup playoff matches against Ukraine and Poland during March — matches the team won without him — Isak was included in Graham Potter's final 26-man squad and has indicated he expects to play in both pre-tournament friendlies against Norway and Greece in early June.
Asked directly about the opening game against Tunisia, he was unambiguous: "Absolutely, I'm feeling well. I've had some injury problems as you know. The most important thing is that I'm in good shape for the World Cup opener. There is a little time left, so I can work on it."
He also told Fotbollskanalen he expects to feature in both warm-up fixtures. "Absolutely. I believe that. I think I will play in both matches. Then it remains to be seen how much."
Sweden are in a competitive group alongside the Netherlands and Japan. The combination of Isak and Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres — who was central to Potter's side qualifying via the playoffs — gives the team considerable firepower if both are fit.
